Sanibel Rules and Laws regarding Electric Bikes.

  • Only Class 1 E-Bikes Permitted ( Pedal Assisted E-Bikes NO THROTTLE & Maximum assisted speed of 20MPH)
    CLASS TWO AND CLASS THREE E-BIKES ARE NOT PERMITTED & PROHIBITED ON SHARED USE PATHS.
    Other Items NOT permitted on Shared Use Path: Other E-Bikes, micromobility devices, motorized scooters, mopeds, etc. (with the exception of a power-driven mobility device operated by a person disabled for mobility purposes).
  • Ebike Riders must be 16 years or older.
  • Follow all traffic laws and signage.
  • Be aware of changing speed limits on paths and roadways.
  • Path users should wear no more than one earbud to hear and monitor traffic.
  • Please provide audible warning before passing on paths.
  • Pedestrians have the Right of Way
  • Be aware of pedestrians on paths and crosswalks.
  • RECKLESS DRIVING WILL BE PROSECUTED BY SANIBEL POLICE DEPARTMENT.
  • ALL E-BIKES & MOTORIZED VEHICLES ARE PROHIBITED ON BEACHES AND DUNES.
